View Reviewer Comments
The ‘View Reviewer Comments’ link will appear in the Action column of Reviewer assignment lists depending upon the permissions granted in RoleManager. Also, the status of the submission, whether the submission is a revision, and whether or not a Reviewer has reviewed a submission previously, will effect whether or not Reviewer comments appear in the various Reviewer assignment lists.
For example, a Reviewer agrees to review a NEW submission and that submission record moves into the ‘Pending Assignments’ list. The Reviewer submits their review and the submission record moves into the ‘Completed Assignments’ list. The Reviewer can now access his own review in the ‘Completed Assignments’ list by clicking on the ‘View Reviewer Comments’ button. If permission is turned on, the Reviewer can also access the finished reviews of the other Reviewers in the same way. However, the Reviewer cannot access unfinished reviews, nor can they have access to completed reviews until AFTER they finish their own review (to prevent bias).
Further example; a Reviewer is invited to review a REVISION of a submission that the Reviewer had seen previously. The Reviewer can now access his own review in the ‘New Invitations’, ‘Pending Assignments’ and ‘Completed Assignments’ lists by clicking on the ‘View Reviewer Comments’ button. If permission is turned on, the Reviewer can access the other Reviewers’ finished reviews from the previous version of the submission. Again, the Reviewer cannot access unfinished reviews of the current revision, nor can they have access to other Reviewers’ completed reviews of the current revision until AFTER they finish their own review (to prevent bias).
Note: Reviewers are identified using ‘Reviewer Numbers’ not their names. This is to ensure that all Reviewers are blinded to each other
To Configure Access to Other Reviews: Depending upon permissions granted in Reviewer RoleManager, the Reviewer can access other Reviewer comments (both 'Blind Comments to Author' and/or 'Confidential Comments to Editor'). Go to System Administrator Functions, RoleManager, Reviewer Role, and click on ‘Edit’ next to each Reviewer role. The permission to display other Reviewer’s comments can be found under the heading ‘General Permissions’. To allow the Reviewer access to other Reviewers’ 'Blind Comments to Author', check the appropriate box. To allow the Reviewer access to other Reviewers’ 'Confidential Comments to Editor', check the appropriate box.
Note: Most journals will not want to display the 'Confidential Comments to Editor', which is why there are two separate permissions
