Author Rebuttal of a Rejected or Withdrawn submission
The Author Rebuttal feature is utilized when an Author wishes to dispute a ‘Reject’ Decision or reverse a ‘Withdrawn’ submission. An Editor with the appropriate RoleManager permission will be able to initiate the rebuttal on behalf of the Author. To do this, the Editor would go into the ‘All Submissions with Final Disposition’ folder and click on the ‘Initiate Rebuttal’ link in the Action column. The Submission is moved out of the Author's ‘Submissions with a Decision’ folder, into the ‘Submissions Needing Revision folder’. Also, the Submission is removed from the Editors' ‘All Submissions with Final Disposition’ and ‘My Assignments with Final Disposition’ folders into the ‘Submissions out for Revision folder’.
Note: The Author will have to contact the journal outside of the EM system to inform the journal of their desire to rebut the Decision
Note: If the Author wished to rebut a rejected submission BEFORE the Final Disposition has been set, then the Editor must first set the Final Disposition to ‘Reject’, and then click the ‘Initiate Rebutta’l link to start the rebuttal process
To Configure RoleManager: To give an Editor Role the permission to move a submission from a Final Disposition status (either ‘Reject’ or ‘Withdrawn’) to a ‘Revise’ status, go to RoleManager, click on the appropriate Editor Role, find the item ‘Initiate Rebuttal’, and click the checkbox.
To Configure ActionManager: A new event has been added to ActionManager called ‘Initiate Rebuttal’.
No configuration is required in the ‘Document Status’ section.
Configuration is required in the ‘Letters’ section for the Author role.
The letter (e-mail notification) should be set up to go to the Author role for the ‘Initiate Rebuttal’ event so that the Author will be aware that the submission is ready for their rebuttal/revisions.
You should create a new letter for the ‘Initiate Rebuttal’ event. To create a new letter, go to System Administration, to PolicyManager, then click on the ‘Edit Letters’ link, and then click on the ‘Add New Letter’ button.
Note: Only the Author can receive an e-mail notification for this event. Editors and Reviewers cannot receive an e-mail notification when the Editor initiates the rebuttal
