Product Management

Business Systems Analyst

Our Product Management group has an exciting career opportunity available for a skilled Business Systems Analystwith at least 3 years experience writing highly detailed functional specifications in large-scale web application design environments.  You will be responsible for translating Marketing's vision of our Editorial Manager and ProduXion Manager products into detailed functional specifications that can be handed to Engineering for development.  Other responsibilities include trouble-shooting software bugs, technical writing, and providing recommendations to management.


  • 3+ years work related experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing functional specifications, technical specifications, and/or other documentation (e.g. User Manuals, Training Documentation, etc.).
  • Strong personal project management skills coupled with the ability to work on multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Dreamweaver or other web authoring tools extremely useful.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Basic understanding of SQL database architecture and concepts, HTML, JavaScript, .NET, software lifecycle methodology and information systems development.
  • Basic understanding of XML construction.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
  • Critical thinker who easily 'changes hats' between what Marketing wants and what Engineering needs to successfully implement solutions.

Software Engineering

Software QA Engineer

Our Quality Assurance department has a position available for a Software QA Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow and flourish. The ideal candidate will have between 3 and 5 years experience testing web-based applications in a SaaS environment.  Experience in the Scholarly Publishing industry is extremely beneficial, but not required.  This key position will report to the QA Manager and will be part of a professional team responsible for the development, maintenance and execution of our test plans and scripts, as well as performing manual regression tests.  This person will also interface directly with our engineering team for the purposes of supporting the bug verification and fix process, as well as verifying and understanding product enhancements. 


  • Work under the general direction of the QA Manager to maintain and execute test plans and scripts for functional and usability testing.
  • Run manual regression test plans to identify bugs and defects.
  • Ability to work independently with engineering and product management as required to follow up on any issues identified.
  • Record and maintain the details of any bugs assigned or found in our Test Track bug tracking system.
  • Understand bug severity and be able to prioritize and escalate issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Between 3 and 5 years QA experience, ideally in a medium to large SaaS company or in the Scholarly Publishing field.
  • An understanding of the software development cycle and testing of web-based applications.
  • Good time management, communication and written skills.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work under pressure and time constraints.
  • Experience with bug tracking systems (Test Track, Bugzilla etc).

Software Engineer (Mid Level)

We have exciting career opportunities available for Mid Level Software Engineers with between 3 and 5 years experience working in large-scale web application development environments using Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET (and Classic ASP), SQL Server, and JavaScript.  You will be responsible for coding product specifications, code maintenance, unit testing, participating in code reviews, and collaborating with other team members and business analysts to solve difficult problems.


  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database design (SQL Server 2008 preferred), ASP.NET (as well as Classic ASP), C# (3.5/4.0), Web Forms, JavaScript, CSS, XML, and general OOP concepts.
  • Experience with C++, Linux, AJAX, design patterns, LaTeX, web services, test-driven development and source control systems (AccuRev preferred) are a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, bug fixing and troubleshooting skills.
  • Logical self starter with a positive, can-do attitude and a desire to work with others to successfully tackle technical and business problems.

Client Services

UK Based Account Coordinator

Due to continue business growth, our Client Services department is expanding once again and has an exciting independent contracting opportunity available for a UK Based Account Coordinator.  The Account Coordinator (AC) will guide customers through the implementation of our Editorial Manager (EM) and ProduXion Manager (PM) software, as well as provide ongoing support.  The AC is responsible for assisting our customers in configuring and using EM and PM to work with their editorial and publishing workflow.  ACs troubleshoot and track customer questions and suggestions related to the set up and subsequent use of the EM and PM software.  We are looking for an individual capable of managing large publisher accounts, as well as someone with a strong interest in exploring new developments in the STM publishing community.   The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years experience working in a customer service-related field or in an editorial office. Experience in the scholarly publishing industry is extremely beneficial, but not required.  This is a “work from home” position, but candidates must reside in the UK.


  • Maintain direct contact with customers and troubleshoot software-related issues that they and their end-users may experience.
  • Coordinate implementation of customer data.
  • Scheduling and implementation of system training.
  • Perform EM and PM software testing, and recreate system problems the customer may experience.
  • Act as intermediary between customers, Product Management, and the Engineering staff.
  • Manage all projects for assigned customers, such as feature requests, custom reports, ongoing training needs, custom tutorials, etc.

IT & Database Administration

Senior Systems Administrator

This position reports to the Director of Operations and will be part of the group responsible for the day to day administration of all production and end user systems.  The Senior Systems Administrator will make a key contribution to the continued success of our growing infrastructure support team.


  • Server acquisition, installation, provisioning and maintenance (O/S, DB and application level).
  • Backup and restore operations.
  • Publishing new code/changes into production.
  • Planning, implementation and maintenance of all core networking infrastructure (load balancers, routers, VPNs, switches, etc).
  • Maintenance of corporate email environment (Microsoft Exchange).
  • Planning, implementation and maintenance of production SAN and NAS environments.
  • Working with end users to resolve system problems.
  • Tracking inventory and license compliance.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6 to 8 years’ experience in a medium to large SaaS environment.
  • Mission critical mindset, with the word “impossible” absent from your vocabulary.
  • Excellent time management, communication, written and customer service skills.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and decision making skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems (Windows 2008/12 and Linux) and virtualization (VMware).
  • Good experience with Windows Active Directory administration (group policy and account management).
  • Good experience with server and networking monitoring applications such as FrameFlow.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008/12/14, IIS7.5+, Apache, SSL and SonicOS.

Our Marketing department has an immediate need for an experienced Marketing Specialist.  The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role within scholarly journals publishing.  The position reports to the Marketing Manager who reports to the VP of Sales and Marketing.   The successful candidate will have responsibility for the operational aspects of the company’s marketing initiatives.  This is an important position, crucial to the continued growth and vitality of the company.


  • Acquire detailed product knowledge so as to be totally fluent in all the features and benefits offered by the Aries solution.
  • Work with the Marketing Assistant to implement marketing initiatives including conference exhibits, marketing pieces, newsletters, User Group meetings, Social Media pages, Web site etc.
  • Produce clear and compelling marketing materials and copy.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Produce instructional videos.
  • Administer marketing activities using SalesForce, Constant Contact, Cvent and other online tools.
  • Make web site content edits.

Education, Experience, Skills:

  • Appropriate professional experience, ideally within scholarly journals publishing.
  • Exceptional writing skill, marketing copy in particular, is essential.
  • Ability to rapidly develop a good understanding of Aries’ market position and product offerings.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Thorough with a great attention to detail.
